One of the greatest and most influential activist Indian Cinema is Amitabh Bachchan, who has gained fame all across the globe. He was born on 11 October, 1942 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, Bachchan’s father Was a renowned Hindi poet named Dr Harivansh Rai. His mother”, ‘Teji Bachchan, was a Sikh socialite. Amitabh’s charismatic personality is an inspiration to a lot of people, so much so that people love him to the magnitude of worshipping him. Amitabh’s mother had a keen interest in theatre and she was the one who insisted him to take up acting as his career. So, in 1969, Bachchan made his first acting role in ‘Saat Hindustani’.
He gained popularity in the early 1970s as the angry young man’ of Hindi cinema after playing the lead role of Zanjeer. The movies like ‘Deewar’ and ‘Sholay that followed, launched him to stardom as an action-movie hero. From the 1970s, through the early ‘8os, Bachchan appeared in more than 100 films and seized opportunities to work with India’s most acclaimed directors.
His movies like ‘Laawaris’, ‘Coolie’, ‘Naseeb’, ‘Silsila’, ‘Sharabi’ and Jaadugar can never be forgotten. They brought him the current stardom and fan following. In addition to acting, Bachchan’s roles often required him to sing. For his outstanding performance, he won many filmfare awards.
In 1982, Bachchan had a serious । accident while filming. He survived the accident, but it prompted him to change his career path.
So, in 1984, he took a break from acting and entered politics in support of long-time family friend, Rajiv Gandhi. But only after three years, he resigned from politics to open his own entertainment production company, Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited. It proved to be a failure leading him to bankruptcy and indebtedness.
Amitabh started a second innings by returning to the silver screen. His Comeback proved a bumpy ride where he saw more flops than hits. After struggling the financial crisis and suffering failures, Amitabh hosted a TV game show Kaun Banega Crorepati’ in 2000.
It became the most watched TV show in the country, and he again won millions of hearts.
Since then, nothing came in the way of his acting career. The ageing body, numerous failures-nothing stopped him. Instead, these made him a role model not just for Bollywood and the movie world, but for anyone who had the desire to dream and the will to make those dreams come true. Bachchan also made his HollyWood debut in 2013 with the movie “The Great Gatsby’.
Apart from National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, Amitabh has been awarded several honours for his achievements in the Indian film industry. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1984 and the Padma Bhushan in 2001 for his Contributions towards arts. In the year 2000, he became the first living Asian to have been immortalised in wax at London’s Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.
Several books have also been written about Bachchan. For all the success, Amitabh has always looked up to his parents and left no chance to pay tribute to them.
