This festival of Baisakhi has many important significances. For Hindus, it is the beginning of New Year, which is celebrated with pious bathing in holy rivers and worshipping. It is believed that the holy Ganga came to the Earth thousands of years ago and in her honour, Hindus gather at the bank of river Ganga to take holy bath.
In Kerala, this festival is called Vihu’. People do shopping, buy new clothes and light fireworks on this day In Assam this festival is known as ‘Bohag Bihu. Grand feasts, music and dancing are held on this occasion.
